Orchids

Although most of Extremadura has low pH soils, there are some widespread pH tolerant species that are easy to find. There are also some limestone areas with high orchid diversity, such as the Almaráz hill about 40 minutes from Casa Rural El Recuerdo. Overall there are 44 species of orchid, some starting to flower in late winter. The best time to see as many species as possible is late March and early April. Here is a selection of orchids photographed in Extremadura.
