There are 56 species of damselfly and dragonfly in Extremadura. The wide variety of suitable habitats, such as rivers and streams, farm pools, reservoirs, ditches and rice fields, makes the region a very interesting place for Odonata. Over the last few decades some African species have colonised the area, so there is great interest in monitoring changing distributions of these insects.
